Finnish shipbuilding company Rauma Marine Constructions (RMC) has started production of the fourth Pohjanmaa-class multipurpose corvette. With this development, all four ships within the scope of the Squadron 2020 program have entered the construction phase.

In the statement made by the company, it was stated that the steel cutting ceremony held for the fourth corvette officially showed that the construction process has officially started, while the hull work on the second ship is nearing the end, and the first corvette, which was launched in May 2025, has entered the outfitting phase.

RMC CEO and President Mika Nieminen said, “We are delighted that all Pohjanmaa-class multi-purpose corvettes are being built at Rauma Shipyard. We have industrialized our production and construction processes to meet the high demands of our customers. This is reflected in the progress we have made in basic shipbuilding activities, in other words, in hull construction.” said.

The Finnish Defense Forces Logistics Command also confirmed the progress of the project. Brigade General Juha-Matti Ylitalo said, “The start of steel cutting for the fourth ship and the laying of the keel stone of the third ship are clear indicators of the progress of the project and the capacity of the Finnish maritime industry. This process will be further strengthened by icebreaker projects that will start soon.”

RMC announced that preparations are underway for the two US Coast Guard icebreakers ordered at the end of 2025, with deliveries scheduled for 2028. It is reported that the production of icebreakers will be carried out in parallel with the corvette program.
